Everyone loves a bargain. Doesn’t matter if you love shopping from bargain basements or boutiques… we all love to save a few pennies. So how about if you could save money on your full price Christmas buys this year? You can! And it’s completely safe, and easy to use. I regularly use all of the listed sites all year round and they are some of my favourite not-best-kept secrets!
They are great! Get a percentage or set amount back when you click through their link (sounds fancier than it is) and buy anything with an online store.
E.g. You click through and spend £100 with an online store. The cashback rate is listed as 5% new customers – you are a new customer and the cashback site registers your purchase. You receive £5 into you cashback site account once confirmed.
These sites often run competitions throughout the year and both have a ‘free’ cash back section so you can build up a few pennies without having to spend anything.
TIP: just be aware that there’s no such thing as ‘free’ online – set up a separate email when signing up for newsletters to avoid being bombarded by spam emails.
The first cash back site I stumbled across almost ten years ago! Quidco is excellent for phone deals if you are thinking about upgrading. It has the most popular online stores listed and often runs special ‘deals’ on certain sites where you get higher cashback rates during that period.
Withdrawing your cashback is easy and there are many ways you can receive it, as long as you have the minimum £1 to take out. As a cash payout this can be deposited into your bank account or PayPal…
BUT to make it stretch even further, you can get an increased amount if you choose a different method. When I last looked there was a massive 15% increase if you withdraw as a Zeek gift card (see below for Zeek advice) or a Debenhams gift card.
Plus, there’s a satisfying little ‘You’ve Earned’ badge on their menu bar when you are logged in, which tells you how much cashback has gone through your account.
Use this link and get £2 when you join and start using the site!
You may have seen the TV adverts for Topcashback? Sometimes it can be worth comparing the rates between the two cashback sites as one may be having a special offer. However they both work in exactly the same way!
Topcashback have no threshold for you to get your money from the site deposited into your account. So the 24p each time you get a takeaway might not sound much but quickly adds up. Spend more at Christmas, Valentine’s and birthdays and you’ll get a tidy sum back if you remember to use the site first for all your shopping.
There are options of how to get your payout. Straight to your account is possible, as is a deposit to PayPal. If you’re a bit flexible, a payout in a gift card for Amazon or the big department stores, usually includes an extra percentage on top.
TIP: Some of the best cash back can be found on insurance policies and phone or internet deals. If you’re thinking of renewing or changing, you need to check them out. We got £60 on pet insurance for the year 2017!
Buy discounted giftcards
Sign up to Zeek and use the code 2RULUD4Y to instantly get £3 to spend against buying a giftcard – with gift cards you can buy starting at £5, you’ll grab a bargain!
Most of the codes can be used online so you can purchase and use it on the spot while you check out at an online store.
There aren’t huge discounts for the most popular brands such as the big department stores. My advice is buy a gift card to use during a sale on reduced items and then you’ll save even more money. Zeek call it the ‘double discount’!
Use your student discount
If you are a student at a college, university or distance learning like the Open University, you need to register yourself for all the discounts right now.
E.g. Already paying for Spotify Premium? You could almost halve the monthly cost by signing up to UniDays tonight… we did!
TIP: If you are graduating next July, don’t forget to buy a longer term NUS Extra card, like their 3 year option. You’ll miss those bus discounts I promise…
Friday 24th November 2017 – It has become something of a hyped up day where videos of queues and chaos hit the news. However with more and more online stores adding deals on ordinarily full price items, you can enjoy some deals shopping in your own home… (Preferably in PJs because all online shopping is better in PJs)
TIP: For Black Friday, save yourself some sanity and resist impulse buys by making a list of the gifts you’d like to buy. Note the full price and then when the deals start, search only for the items you’re interested in!
Amazon is the king of Black Friday and will reliably have deals on their own brand products, e.g. In 2016 on Black Friday, Amazon had £40 off the Amazon Echo. In 2017, there is now a whole range of Amazon Echo products and the I expect the 2nd generation Echo will be a popular buy this Christmas.
Prime members can also usually benefit from access to early deals or Prime only offers.
